The Armchair Travel Competition
:sun: Show Me Your Homeland :sun:
In the course of an unfortunately brief chat with bewareofthesnowman this evening, I asked him to write me a poem about Wales so I could see it through his eyes.
It occurred to me then that there are so many places in the world I've never been, as I've always been too poor or too busy to travel, and got the idea to ask you guys to help me see where it is that YOU live!
I'd love to be able to see it through your eyes, to sense and experience something unique about your homeland.
Will you show it to me? I'd love to be an armchair traveller. :)
:sun: How To Enter :sun:
:bulletpurple: Note me a link to a poem or piece of short prose specifically about the place where you live.
-- Make sure to put either PROSE or POETRY in the subject line!
:bulletpurple: I'd like to experience it as if I was there. I'll be judging this on how well your writing evokes a sense of your homeland, so make sure to really capture someth

Why Branding Isn't Bad
There is a movement out there. You can hear it. Shhhh. Listen carefully. Hear that buzzing noise? The one that sounds like a mosquito? Yeah that's the one.
The movement of which I speak is a somewhat recent anti-brand, anti-advertising, anti-marketing grassroots movement which aims to let the world know how useless, harmful, and evil advertising on the whole is.
I point to sites like and the anti-advertising agency as examples.
These movements and initiatives look for support from others who share the common goal or belief that corporate America is evil and marketing is to blame. While I revel in and enjoy the anti-capitalist sentiment (I honestly do enjoy rebellion), I think these movements are misguided, misinformed, and in some ways hypocritical.
Allow me to explain, if I may.
These movements' primary message seems to be that branding is bad. That it clutters our society wit

AIDS Walk 2007
They say that one good turn deserves another and after the outpouring of love and support I received for my weekend to end breast cancer, I'm inclined to believe that.  As such, I'm writing today to draw attention to the fight against AIDS, a cause near and dear to many but more specifically, my friend GeneratingHype.  For those of us old enough to remember, the subject of AIDS was a media bonanza in the 90's and it was constantly addressed  in every newspaper, political platform, tv spot and magazine.  They talked about it and they talked about it often.  Unfortunately, that need to talk has slowed down, but the epidemic that is AIDS has not.
Over 25 million people have been lost to AIDS so far, and 4.3 million people were infected with HIV in 2006.  The spread of HIV is quickening, with more people infected in 2006 than in any previous year.
Why do I care? I care because it affects people I care about, I care.. because
